Family Support Project

The Family Support Project refers to services provided to help families keep their loved ones with a disability at home. The home is typically the best environment in which a person can live. Family support services offer services which allow for prevention of placement of a person outside of their natural home.

The delivery of Family Support Project services are family-centered, allow for families to make informed decisions, are sensitive to the needs of the entire family, and are flexible enough to satisfy the unique needs of different families. Examples of services provided by the Family Support Project are listed below, however, services are not limited to:

  • In-home respite care
  • Information and referral
  • Family training
  • Recreation
  • Assistance with appointments (medical, dental, vision, public assistance etc.)

Family Support services can help eliminate some of the stress that families experience in trying to meet the unique needs of a family member with a disability. Providing supports for people with disabilities in their natural homes helps maintain their quality of life and that of their family.
